Pacheco Valley Residence

The Kitchen

The owner of this Pacheco Valley condo loves to cook but was cramped in the original design. We maximized the space by adding a tray ceiling, extending both upper and lower cabinets, and increased storage and counter space by grouping the pantry and refrigerator on one wall. The cabinets were  refinished to a frame-less style paint grade and new counter, tile, and appliances  were added for an updated look.

Updating a Mid-Century Eichler: Before and After_The Kitchen

Part 2 Updating a Mid-Century Eichler_ The Kitchen

In part one Updating a Mid-Century Eichler_ flexible living, we converted 2 of the 5 original bedrooms in this modern Eichler classic into a flex space for today's modern family.

In part 2 we update the original kitchen to reflect today's domestic chefs and entertaining executives.

Original Eichler Plan

The before plan shows a two way galley kitchen using less than half of the space provided in that room, leaving limited counter space, and a large 13x19 "multi-purpose" space for multi-purposes...? What ever that means...
After Plan

In the new kitchen we've opened up the space creating a chefs dream! Including a large range on the center island, and ample storage and counter space. The island also provides a generous built-in bar for entertaining friends or enjoying informal meals in the new kitchen.

Updating a Mid-Century Eichler: Before and After_ flexible living

I am a big fan of the mid-century masters and being from the Bay Area, Eichler homes hold a special place in my heart. However, with today's ever changing family structure the homes of the 50's don't always fit the flexible needs of today family unit.

Updating this 5 bedroom Eichler home, I've converted two of those bedrooms to a flexible in-law/ guest quarters/ income property unit by taking advantage of an existing door (see the yellow door to the side) that also opens to the front porch and adding a full bath, living quarters, and a fully functional kitchenette that looks onto the Eichler signature atrium.

The images below show the changes to the highlighted area on the before plan. Check back for more changes to the kitchen and then the plan as a whole.
Before Plan

After Plan
The after plan featuring the new flexible in-law/ guest quarters/ income property with it's own private entrance, full bath, private living quarters, and fully functional kitchenette.
